Cheskin Catalyst Davis Masten Appointed Chair-Designate of the Presidents' Circle of the National Academies

Redwood Shores, Calif. – October 16, 2006 – Reinforcing its vision of providing thought leadership to global business and the community at large, innovation consulting firm Cheskin is pleased to announce that the company’s principal and chairman, Davis Masten has been selected chair-designate of the Presidents’ Circle of the National Academies (National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine). In addition, Masten has been appointed to the oversight committee for the Division on Earth and Life Sciences (DELS), one of six study divisions of the National Academies.

“Davis brings extensive experience in guiding product innovation and marketing strategies for global companies, and we hope to capitalize on that experience as we look to engage other business and community leaders in our important work,” said Ralph J. Cicerone, president of the National Academy of Sciences.

Under congressional charter, the National Academies (www.national-academies.org) enlist committees of the nation’s top scientists, engineers, and other experts to provide independent scientific and technological advice to the government and nation.

DELS (http://dels.nas.edu) enlists the nation’s experts to addresses issues of local and national importance where policy meets geo-, life-, and chemical sciences. The division’s 16 units conduct a wide range of activities that facilitate communication among the research community, policy makers, industry, and the public.

Masten joined the Presidents’ Circle in 2003 and is currently working with the three presidents and the Academies’ communications staff on institution-wide communications issues. He is also a member of the Academies’ committee on the Design of an NSF Innovation Inducement Prize.

Davis Masten joined Cheskin in 1975 and worked closely with founder and research pioneer Louis Cheskin. Focusing on the areas of youth culture, branding, trust, and product development, he is a pioneer in expanding client perspectives, offering a unique and time-tested view of marketplace trends.
